Southampton's best secondary schools revealed

The best secondary schools in Southampton have been revealed by the government.

It comes after the Department for Education released data on how well pupils were performing in school, most notably the pass grades in GCSE English and maths.

According to government data, Saint George Catholic College in Swaythling is the best performing secondary school in Southampton – with 83.2 per cent of students achieving standard passes in both English and maths – with pupils receiving grades between 4 and 9.

In a statement, the headteacher of the school, James Habberley, said: “I would like to congratulate the class of 2024 who totally deserve the success they achieved. A huge thanks to all our staff for their tireless commitment and drive to consistently teach high-quality lessons to ensure every student achieves their full potential and to the pastoral team for supporting them along the journey, ensuring they get the support they need.
