30 year 8&9 students took part in a Dance workshop last Wednesday with New Adventures - a dance theatre company founded by Matthew Bourne who are currently touring The Red Shoes at the Mayflower Theatre. Following the workshop, Miss Catley, Mr May and the students went to see The Red Shoes at the Mayflower Theatre, and were very excited to see movement that they had explored practically themselves at school come to life on the big stage.

Our wonderful Chaplaincy team would like to kindly request any Easter egg donations for our Romero Day Easter egg raffle as well as hot dog sausage tins for our hot dog stands. Romero Day is our annual fundraising day, whereby tutor groups host stands in order to raise money for our chosen school charity. On Friday 20th March, the college will be raising money towards Southampton based charity, Hope Now, who work in Ukraine. We will be raising money to replace much needed children's play equipment at a centre in the countryside which is used to give people holidays and let them escape from the war zone. Pupils should bring their donations to Ms Lee-Cann's room before next Friday.

We are officially a FairAchiever School! We are incredibly proud to announce that Saint George Catholic College has been awarded FairAchiever status, the highest level of accreditation from the Fairtrade Foundation! This award recognises our "strong and thoughtful commitment to Fairtrade" and how we have successfully embedded ethical values into our school culture. What the Fairtrade Foundation said about us: Curriculum Excellence: Our teaching helps students deepen their "understanding of fairness, global inequality, and ethical consumption." Living our Values: Our Green Day and Fairtrade cake stalls were highlighted as fantastic ways to link Fairtrade to the Catholic Social Teaching principle of "Care for Our Common Home." Student Impact: From Food Technology lessons to our annual Year 8 trip to Cadbury World, our students show "impressive awareness" and "outstanding outcomes" in global learning. Yesterday our Design Technology students visited the Design Museum in London. Students from Years 8, 9 and 10 explored the museum's exhibitions and took part in a workshop focused on Smart and Sustainable Materials. It was great to see how positively they engaged with the exhibits and activities throughout the visit, showing curiosity, creativity and a real interest in how design can shape a more sustainable future.

World Book Day Our wonderful staff dressed as book characters to mark World Book Day. Pupils enjoyed guessing who staff were, a treasure hunt at lunchtime as well as spending their world book day tokens in school.

A new opportunity to support the wellbeing and mental health of our students as a Mental Health Nurse.

Meet the Governor Lorraine Swann Lorraine is one of our Foundation governors appointed by the Bishop to ensure the clarity of the Catholic vision, ethos and strategic direction. She serves on Curriculum Committee and Finance & Resources Committee and is the link governor for Health & Safety and Sustainability. Outside of governance, Lorraine helps run the First Holy Communion programme at Southampton City Centre Catholic Parish and is on the Baptism team too. She enjoys reading and welcoming at 10am mass at St Joseph's on Sundays. Lorraine has had a long career teaching English to speakers of other languages, working in Russia, Italy and UK.

GCSE Drama have been in this half term creating their revision board of the exam paper. The winning team created a practical performance of Miss Streets classroom which was very impressive - including all the important information they need for their written exam.

This week Saint George has been celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2026. We have taken part in various activities and students have been exploring exciting pathways beyond the classroom discovering how apprenticeships can open doors to real-world skills, hands-on experience, and future careers. From inspiring speakers to practical workshops, it's been fantastic to see our young people asking big questions and thinking boldly about their next steps. New Year New Stories! For a lot of people, the start of the year is usually a slow burner... but not here at Saint George! There has been lots going on, lots to look forward to and lots to report on. Dance Live! – 2 February 2026 | Portsmouth Guildhall We are incredibly proud to share that our students were absolutely phenomenal at the Dance Live competition on Monday evening at Portsmouth Guildhall. Although we didn't place this time, the team achieved something truly special taking home the Fellowship Award and the Creative Process Award for our LED screen production. A fantastic recognition of both teamwork and innovation! Throughout a long and demanding day, the students showed outstanding resilience, positivity and energy. They performed with confidence and heart, despite facing very strong competition. Their commitment, attitude and support for one another were inspiring to see. Saint George Winners! Please join me in celebrating the success of our Year 9 winners, who brought home two honours from the I-Construct Awards ceremony hosted at Solent University last night. It was a night of celebration and pride, as our students were recognised for their hard work and achievements, surrounded by the love and support of their families. Women and girls are reshaping the construction industry by challenging stereotypes, gaining industry experience, and leading with skill and determination and last night was proof of that. Congratulations to all the award recipients!
