Impartial Careers Information, Advice & Guidance is available to all students through Mrs May in the Careers Office.
St George regularly achieves higher than the national average of students who leave school and continue into further education or training.
Each Year 11 student has the opportunity of a one to one career interview. Students can request further interviews until they are confident in the choices they have made. These are essential for your son or daughter especially if they are unsure of what they wish to do after they leave college. We can also help with college applications, which need to be completed before Christmas.
During the autumn term students will have talks from local colleges and training providers during assembly. They will be able to take home prospectuses for the local colleges and the dates for the Open Evenings at these institutions which usually start at the end of September.
A list of all the local colleges is shown below. Please visit as many of these as you can so that your son/daughter can make a fully informed decision about where they will go to next year.
We have our Year 11 Careers Fair in the autumn term, just before half term. Please come along with your son/daughter to meet with many local colleges, training and apprenticeship providers and employers. Check the college calendar for the date.
Every student in year 10 will have a two week work experience placement at the end of the summer term. This is an important part of the curriculum as students can develop and practice a new range of skills and so become more confident in their own abilities; it is also necessary for students to be well informed regarding their future employability.
Careers education is embedded into the curriculum for all students in Years 7, 8 & 9. Work related learning activities are arranged so that students are inspired and motivated to fulfil their potential. We help every pupil develop high aspirations and consider a broad and ambitious range of careers.
This website is full of information for young people and their parents.
