Saint George Catholic College is an oversubscribed and rapidly expanding college, that has been graded outstanding by the Local Authority and ranked in the top 5% of schools nationally for progress. The Maths department is outstanding with outstanding results. In 2017, 66% achieved grades 5-9 and 85% grades 4-9. Progress 8 is +0.61, which ranks the department in the top 5% nationally.

The department, which has been a high performing department for over a decade, has nine specialist maths teachers and one dedicated HLTA all of whom are exceptional teachers.  The role will involve adapting current practices to meet the new GCSE expectations and creating an environment for our most able mathematicians to continue to thrive.  The Maths Department has a dedicated teaching block which has recently been refurbished, and has a strong place at the heart of the school.

Assistant to the Science Technician


To work Permanent, Part Time, Term Time only
To start as soon as possible
Scale Grade 5 range £17,678 - £20,403 pro rata.  Actual salary £6,105 - £7,045 p.a.
Hours of work: 15 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Job Purpose
To undertake duties in support of the work of the teaching staff in the Science Department.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
a) The provision of materials and equipment for use in science lessons.
b) The clearing away and cleaning of equipment used in science lessons.
c) General duties in support of teachers in the science department.
d) The precise duties would be determined by the Head of School consistent with the main areas of responsibility set out above.  Some examples of the kind of duties which may be required are set out below.
Preparation of science materials and equipment.  For example:

  • Collecting apparatus and chemicals from storage.
  • Checking individual components in and out for class use.
  • Returning apparatus and chemicals to storage as soon as practicable.
  • Purchase of sundries from local supermarkets.

Routine maintenance of science laboratories and preparation rooms, their equipment and services:

  • Sorting materials tidily.
  • Keeping equipment clean.
  • Cleaning of goggles.
  • Cleaning of safety screens, fume cupboards and other items.
  • Cleaning of worktops, sink and floor in prep room.

Maintaining the stocks of science chemicals and equipment, for example:

  • Taking stock of chemicals, consumables, stationery, books and breakable items.
  • Advise Senior Technician on stock replacement needs.
  • Checking deliveries.
