ALL students participate in the Physical Education Curriculum, using our excellent facilities. Physical Education needs to be seen in the context of education for life. Young people’s increasing knowledge and understanding of the need for an active, healthy lifestyle should be matched to a strong, growing awareness of the sporting and recreational opportunities in the wider community.
By its very nature Physical Education is active. However, it is important for the students to appreciate what is involved in making decisions, choosing options or selecting skills if their understanding of the activity is to improve.
Having brand new facilities has opened up many new options for the students. Using two large indoor facilities combined with many acres of field, we can offer physical education to an extremely high standard. For our past achievements and future potential, we have been awarded Sports College Status (click here to read more about our sports accreditations).
In Years 10 and 11, students have the opportunity to develop their knowledge of PE by gaining either the BTEC first in sport Diploma GCSE PE or JSLA (Junior Sports Leaders Award). Teams for football, basketball, rugby, cricket and badminton are entered into local and county leagues and cups. The department offers a varied extra-curricular programme, which all students are encouraged to join.
