Welcome to ICT

Our curriculum is designed to enable our pupils to acquire the knowledge and skill necessary to thrive in the information age. We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that includes IT, Computing and Digital literacy. We acknowledge that our pupils come with experiences of using ICT outside of the classroom.

Through an innovative and challenging curriculum we to turn their knowledge and skills into an ICT qualification that prepares them for the life beyond school. Students have five lessons a fortnight.

Key Stage 3

Year 7 & 8

Year 7 and 8, ICT is imbedded across the curriculum where students have the opportunity to develop digital literacy.

Year 9

In Year 9 pupils study to a wide range of topics to prepare them for GCSE studies in Key Stage 4. This also develops ICT skills that can be transferred to other subjects, extending their learning across the curriculum. The topics include:

  • Spreadsheet modelling
  • Introduction to Python
  • Understanding computers
  • Computer crime and cyber security
  • Networks
  • HTML and web development
  • Database development
  • App Development in AppShed

Key Stage 4

In KS4 (Year 10 & 11), we offer Edexcel Certificate in Digital Applications (CiDA) that last for two years. The course is presented in two separate units.

  • Unit 1 – Developing web products, a compulsory unit that culminates with a 2.5 hour practical exam that is worth 25% of the final grade. This unit will include an in-depth study of HTML, CSS, web design with Fireworks and Dreamweaver.

  • Unit 2 - is worth 75 % of the final marks and is entirely coursework (no exam) offers a choice of one the following areas of study:

Creative multimedia – creating animation with Adobe Flash, movieswith Movie Maker, sound manipulation with Audacity
Artwork and imaging – designing graphics with Serif DrawPlus X6
Games authoring – designing educational games with Gamemaker 8.0

Looking ahead
We plan to offer our pupils with the option to take either Edexcel Certificate in Digital Applications (CiDA) or GCSE Computing in KS4. These options will enable each pupil to opt for a course where her or his strengths lie and if a leaner want to go on to complete further studies in the field of computing, they will find that our Key Stage 4 curriculum would have provided them with a solid foundation to build upon.
